FAQs
I currently have
RattleRR Version 9 installed on my web server. Can I upgrade to
Version 10 and still use RattleRR?
R&R contains custom versions of several R&R component files so you cannot
upgrade the server to R&R Version 10 and still use RattleRR. A free update
to RattleRR to work with R&R v10 (and later) is available now upon request.
Send us an email to request it.
Will RattleRR read my existing reports?
RattleRR reads all existing R&R SQL (RSW) and Xbase (RRW) reports. The
report must be modified so that references to remote files and graphics are
“visible” from the server irrespective of drive mappings (i.e. uses UNC).
Will RattleRR work with Active Server Pages?
Yes, RattleRR is designed to create objects on the server that behave
much like an ActiveX control on a form. Much of the same functionality is
carried into the RattleRR controls, RSWControl and RRWControl. The exposed
properties can be referenced directly in your server-side scripts. Some of
the ActiveX runtime properties or methods have no meaning in the Internet
reporting context and are not visible.
What is needed on the client's server?
RattleRR delivers dynamic reports
to the client’s web browser. The Internet Explorer compatible browser
displays the standard R&R PDI ActiveX viewer. A file is included
that, if
properly referenced within your ASPs, will prompt or automatically download
the viewer to your visitors.
Can I control the behavior of my reports?
Some of the exposed elements of RattleRR include an enhanced
parameter-passing mechanism to RIPARAM() functions within your reports.
Additionally, information collected on one form can be passed into the ASP
and used to control sorting, grouping, master- and related-table
definitions, querying, etc.
How is RattleRR licensed?
RattleRR is delivered as a set of server-based components, along with a copy
of the R&R Data Warehouse. Each copy of RattleRR is licensed for an
unlimited number of connections to a single server. Multiple servers
will require individual licenses for each. Site licensing is
available.
How is the report displayed?
The report data and formatting
information is streamed to the browser. The data appears in the ActiveX
window and can be paged-through and sized according to the parameters passed
into the ASP and the dimensions of the browser on the screen. All
formatting and layout information is retained and can be printed as defined
to the client’s local printers.
