Liveware Publishing Sues Best Software Inc. For Copyright Infringement and Other Acts


March 28, 2002 -- Claymont, DE – On March 19, 2002 Liveware Publishing Inc. filed a lawsuit in Federal District Court in Wilmington, DE against Best Software, Inc. The suit seeks damages for infringement of Liveware’s copyright for R&R Report Writer, breach of contract, violation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998 (DMCA), and other causes of action.

If its claims are upheld, Liveware estimates the damages at $15 million. Liveware claims arose in conjunction with Best’s distribution of Liveware’s R&R Report Writer program, which is embedded in Best’s AbraSuite Human Resource and Payroll family of products.

Best Software, Inc. is the US subsidiary of The Sage Group, plc, a British software company that publishes such products as MAS90, Timeslips, SalesLogix, Peachtree and Platinum.
