What’s New in R&R Version
8
In Version 8, you can embed charts directly into your
reports with built-in charting support. Support includes pie, bar, line, and
area charts of all types and many customizable options including 3-D support,
orientation and grid lines specification, label and legend specification,
color schema selection, and font support.
You can use the Application Scheduler for automatic or
periodic scheduling of report printing or export and non-report events.
Automatically update your reports periodically, run complex reports at any
time of the day, or schedule any report or non-report event.
This conversion wizard is useful for those users
bridging the gap between R&R Xbase Report Writer and ARPEGGIO . The wizard
walks you through converting .RRW reports to .RSW reports, including selecting
your reports, creating a data source, mapping table and column names when
necessary, and warning of any potential inconsistencies between the formats
and how to resolve them.
Export capabilities have been extended with the addition
of Intranet and Internet report publishing, export your reports as HTML
documents.
The ActiveX Report Viewer Control serves as an
additional tool for Intranet and Internet report publishing. For complex
reports that make use of report formatting features that are not supported in
HTML, use the ActiveX Report Viewer Control. Export your report to the Viewer
Control format, drop the control into your web page, and have your reports
rendered exactly how they appear in Preview.
Open Scripting support has been extended in Version 8 to
send report definitions to the Report Viewer from custom wizards.
Support has been added for the Database Container file
format in Visual FoxPro. With this support, the Report Writer is no longer
restricted to "free table" mode, and the Visual FoxPro users can
base reports on DBCs in which they’ve grouped related tables and defined
descriptive table and field names for them.
You can now print or fax your report without opening it
simply by right-clicking on the report name and selecting the appropriate item
from the menu.
A Printer Properties button is now available in the File
Print dialog in the Designer and in the Viewer to enable you to change printer
settings.
For year 2000 support, the Report Designer will no
longer accept ambiguous two-digit years, but will automatically expand such
dates to assume the current century.
Read Retry support has been added to accommodate
situations in which there is an error reading a DBF. The Designer now reports
"Error reading file xxx" in a message box with Retry and Cancel
buttons when running a report. If you select Retry, Designer attempts the read
again. The Viewer retries the read every 5 seconds for 5 minutes until it
succeeds or until retries are exhausted.
The character used to indicate hard-spaces is now
configurable via a new SPACEDOT setting in the SRT file. This support is most
useful for users with character sets that make user of character 183, the
default space dot character in reports.
